This painting began as a memory of standing in a friend’s garden after the rain, surrounded by flowers at the moment when colour seemed to become almost impossibly vivid. I remember being awestruck by the way the emerging sunlight found its way through the garden, illuminating unexpected places while leaving others softly in shadow.

Rather than simply painting a collection of flowers, I wanted to capture the feeling of being there — that fleeting, joyful moment when nature, light and colour seem to come alive.

Through thick, expressive layers of paint, I’ve tried to hold onto the energy, spontaneity and sense of wonder I felt in that garden. Native Daydream is less about a particular bouquet and more about the feeling of being immersed in colour and beauty, suspended for a moment in time.

For me, it is more than a painting of flowers. It is a joyful memory, preserved forever — a celebration of colour, texture and the ever-changing beauty of light.
